Urban Philip Linn was born in Liberty Township, Mercer County, Ohio, on 6 April 1904 the fifth of nine children born to Henry (1871-1934) and Margaret (Deitsch) Linn (1877-1967) Linn. Urban’s father Henry was born in Germany and came to America when he was 9 months old.
The Henry Linn family in 1910, with Urban, age 6, enumerated as Herbart: Henry Linn, 37; Maggie, 31; John, 13; Edward, 11; Andy, 9; Valentine, 7; Herbart [Urban], 6; Powell, 3; William, 2; and Caroline, 1 month. Urban’s father Henry was a farmer. [1]
By 1920 the Henry Linn family had added another child to the family, daughter Hilda. Son John Linn had left home by 1920 but there were still eight Linn children living at home. Urban was 15 years old in 1920. [2]
By 1930 Urban, 26, and three of his siblings, Valentine, William, and Hilda, resided at home with their parents. Urban worked on the farm with his father and two brothers. [3]
Urban’s father Henry died in 1934.
In 1940 Urban resided with his widowed mother Margaret, 62, head, and his brother Valentine’s family, that consisted of wife Elizabeth and their two children, Pauline, 8, and Lester, 3. Urban and Valentine were farmers. [4]
In 1950 Urban Linn, 45, worked as a timber cutter, likely working for Andrews Sawmill in Chatt. [5]
In 1960 Urban was a watchman at Mersman Brothers, Celina, and lived on South Walnut Street. [6]
Urban Linn died in Van Wert on 13 February 1978, at age 73. His residence was Celina. Urban never married. [7]
