The Veil

Last week I posted a photo from my Aunt Esther’s wedding reception, which was held in their family barn east of Willshire.  

Below are more wedding photos of the Schumm sisters, the three daughters of Cornelius L. and Hilda (Scaer) Schumm, my mom and her two sisters, Esther and Amy.

A June Wedding

June is traditionally a popular month for weddings and my aunt and uncle, Esther and Al Krueckeberg, celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary a couple weeks ago. They married in June of 1951.

A Letter Concerning a Gravestone

I recently came across this old letter, written to my great-grandfather Ludwig “Louis” J. Schumm (1851-1938). The letter was written on 26 August 1909 and is from C. F. Germann, Wren, Ohio.

Tombstone Tuesday–Wilhelm C. & Ferdinand Bienz

This is the tombstone bearing the names of two brothers, Wilhelm C. and Ludwig Eberhard Ferdinand Bienz, located in row 1 of Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Schumm, Van Wert County, Ohio. Wilhelm C. Bienz is inscribed on the east side and his brother Ludwig Eberhard “Ferdinand” Bienz’s name is inscribed on the west side of the monument.
