Good evening Mrs. Bennett,
I just stumbled on your site while researching Bruno Betzel former baseball player for the St Louis Cardinals.Mr. Betzel lived 7 houses down the street from my childhood home in Celina. I grew up in Celina; my dad had a Rexall Drugstore on the corner of Main and Market Streets in Celina.. I used to see Mr Betzell all the time in the summer as he drove down Brandon Avenue to and from his Celina home.
I loved and played baseball when I was a kid. I remember my mom telling me about Mr. Betzell when I was a kid and that I should stop him some time to talk about his playing days. Unfortunately, I never did. Too shy I guess.
In any case, I am looking for a photo of Mr. Betzell, preferably in his St Louis uniform.I know there are photos out there as I have seen them on line. There is one with the 1916 Cardinal team and another baseball-type card of Betzel.I have a large collection of original Baseball memorabilia and would like to add Mr. Betzell to the collection.
Do you have any ideas or connections that might help me find photos of Bruno Betzel? Please let me know.
Thank-you.
Regards,
Dave Schindler

That is so interesting that you lived so close to Bruno Betzel and that you remember seeing him! Thank you for sharing your memories. Unfortunately I am not able to help you locate a photo of him in uniform. Like you, I have seen some photos on-line but I would not know where to find any in person. Thank you for writing and the best of luck in your search.
Hi Karen , my name is Ralph Lehrman and I am the nephew of Alvin Krueckeberg ,son of his sister Julia. Alvin’s daughter Sharon , who is probably my closet cousin on my mom’s side , stopped in today for a short visit with her husband. Was so good to visit since we don’t get out. My wife Sandy has been ill for about three years.Sharon gave me the name of your blog and I am interested in WWII and enjoyed your dad’s letters and also tell you I remember your dad and mom quite well . I love to bake and cook but am limited some days due to two lung diseases and severe chronic back pain. By the way , I worked for Alvin for a good number of years. Take care , glad I found your blog , Ralph .

Hello Ralph! How nice to hear from you and thank you so much for writing. I am glad to hear that you enjoy reading my dad’s WWII letters. I will soon be finished with the letters he wrote while in basic training and after that I will be posting the letters he wrote from Europe during the war. This is a good way for me to get them transcribed and to share them at the same time. That is something that you remember my mom and dad. Perhaps we have met? Al moved a lot of dirt here and dug our pond about 40 years ago, before we built out house. Of course Al did a lot of work for many people back then. I hope you and your wife have a very Merry Christmas.
Hello, I am researching the Sundamacher and Hiller familys both of whom were members of the Zion Lutheran Church in Chat. Trying to determine the relationship between Martha Sundamacher and Margaret Legenahusen Sundamacher Myers. I believe they are sisters but have not found any informations that confirms that except and photo from the early 1920’s found in my grandmothers things labeled Aunt Martha Hillers family. Martha was deceased but they were visiting the family on their farm in Adams County, Indiana. Many of them are buried at the Kessler cemetery.
Thank you for any information you could share with me. Phyllis Franklin. New Haven Indiana

I will look through my information and see if I have anything about them. I have recently run across an Andreas/Andrew Hiller during some research so I am looking at the Hillers right now in connection with another family. Look for an upcoming blog post about that. I will have to get back with you on your question. Thanks for writing! Karen
